🔍 Sarasvet Regulatory Focus : February 2026 | Part 2

Are your “complementary feed” claims really compliant in Europe? đŸ§

In the EU, complementary feeds for animals are clearly defined and regulated - yet this is still a frequent source of mistakes in marketing and packaging.

📜 Key regulatory anchors to remember:

  • Regulation (EC) No 767/2009 defines complementary feed and governs labelling and claims
  • No marketing authorisation is required, but full regulatory compliance is mandatory
  • Claims must remain nutritional: medicinal or preventive claims are prohibited
  • Authorised additives only, under Regulation (EC) No 1831/2003
  • Specific limits apply to minerals and trace elements (e.g. Regulation (EU) 2020/354)

âš ïž Why this matters for animal health SMEs

A single word can lead to:

  • regulatory challenges
  • forced label changes
  • or product reclassification

 đŸŽŻ Take-home message

In animal health, what you say is as critical as what you develop.

Strong claims are possible, when science, strategy and regulation speak the same language.
